Late last year when heavy duty work deadlines were looming and it felt like the walls were closing in, both my work wife (pictured) and I needed something to look forward to.
During one of our one-on-ones, I threw out the idea of getting together for a long weekend just so we could have some time to unwind and decompress from the pressures of work and our personal lives.
At first, we were going to enjoy a shopping holiday in New York City, but we quickly pivoted and came to realize that a warm beach with nothing to do sounded even better which is how we found ourselves booked at an all-inclusive in Cancun, Mexico for early January.
But let’s back up, and provide a little backstory here. Laura and I have worked together for about a year and a half. She was my replacement and we spent a lot of time together virtually so that she could get up to speed and take over the role that I was previously in. We also have only ever seen each other twice in person. Albeit we spent a lot of time together working via Zoom meetings, ours was an unconventional friendship. So maybe you’re thinking a girls trip is a pretty usual thing, but in this case we were both stepping way outside of our comfort zones. It was kind of like meeting your online friend in real life and committing to spending five days in a foreign country together, sharing a room. It could’ve gone really well or it could’ve gone horribly.
Lucky for us, we had an amazing time. We found ourselves booked at an amazing resort in Cancun, right after the busyness of the holidays, and when I tell you, it could not have been more perfect, I really mean it. We had the perfect mix of downtime and adventure with lots of time to connect with one another on a deeper level that isn’t typically available and accessible in new(er) adult friendships.
This trip was so impactful that I immediately knew I needed to host a yoga retreat in this space. We even managed to scope out locations to facilitate the connection during our trip! If you’ve been looking for a way to reconnect with yourself, build-up tools to help you with your mindset, or even simply get away. I highly suggest you book my upcoming retreat scheduled for October this fall and if you bring a friend you both can save $200 by using code: BETTERTOGETHER. Full booking details for my Tulum Yoga + Mindset Retreat can be found HERE.
Moral of the story? When you open yourself to opportunity without expectation, you may be surprised by how great things can be. 💗
I really can’t wait to see you in-person and until then, I’ll catch ya online somewhere.
With deep love,
Paige
